Smile Slc. Jeweler's Art 'Waiomao Plum' HCC/AOS Peloric

I am hoping it was the summer heat that did this. I left the buds alone and let them develop and they turned out sort of pretty. I brought it in as the flowers have such a lovely scent.

Even though the 'Waiomao' is Hawaiian, it sounds so Maori! There is another piece of proof that all the native pacific cultures are all closely linked! HAHA!
Anyway, enough with the ramblings of a possible future philanthropist, this is a beauty! i can see why it is called 'Jeweler's Art', it could pass as a stone on a womans ring!

Connie I love yours. it appears we are hooked on the same grower and have the same tastes when it comes to catts. When mine bloomed the blooms were more traditional cattleya in shape. I agree about the scent---it is lovely. I am anxious now for my plants next bloom cycle to see what I get. Thanks for sharing yours.

Did you know it was going to bloom differently? What was different about the buds? I think it's interesting that the one flower has that orange edge like it was still trying to be more lip-like. I have this one, too, and I love it.

What an odd flower! And all three are like that? Be interesting to see if that mutation persists. At least if it does, it's not an unattractive mutant. Just a rather "unorchid" like form. That first photo, in particular, is reminescent of a hibiscus flower to me.

Cool and interesting orchid blooms, Connie. It does look a bit like a hibiscus to me too.

    cheers,
