Default Cattleya Amelia (Cattleya intermedia x Cattleya cinnabarina)

Here is a rare and unusual primary hybrid of Cattleya intermedia and Cattleya (former Laelia) cinnabarina. I have been told that this is a division from a plant atleast 70 years old. It has a form like a cinnabarina but colors like an intermedia, I would have loved it to be other way round!! Its still a nice plant with 3 inch flowers.

Wow, it is a beautiful primary. I've never seen it. Thanks for sharing.
It is very surprising that the cinnabarina's orange is not expressed.

I agree with Eric on the lack of orange. I'm in love with this one!

Tis a shame that cinnabarina's color did not come through, though not unexpected -- if memory serves, lavendar is dominant in catts.

Thank you everyone for the comments, I was also hoping for the orange colors some plants of this remake cross show nice yellow orange colors.

You are right Paul, it depends on the nature of the pigment which gives the red orange color. Purple is dominant over red if the pigment is an Anthocyanin, it can be codominant if it is a xanthin and red orange is dominant if it is due to carotenes.
