Default Deep Burgundy/Crimson/Magenta Cattleya orchid noid

This little powerhouse has had 7 blooms at one time, before finally starting to succumb to time. It's a pretty compact plant, and the individual blooms are about 4" across, with the vevet-textured, and much deeper-colored lip dominating. It has the most intoxicating fragrance of cinnamon and lemon. The first 2 pictures were taken about 10 days ago, when the blooms were so dark red, I couldn't really get them captured properly, no matter what light and/or setting I tried. And I'm not thrilled with the depth-of-field or overall focus either, but it gives a sense of how it looks. As the blooms aged, they started to tun a deep magenta, which I have tried to capture in the 3rd picture. None of these even come close to the intensity of the color (Can you tell I'm frustrated with my DSLR?).

Anyway, I thought someone might recognize it.

It's a noid?? Oh gosh...you should let me take care of that lovely thing for you. lol That one is absolutely breathtaking!! I wish I could help with the name. I recognize the flower...but the name isn't popping into the brain. It's an old cross, and i'll bet one of the older members will know it on sight. It's a gorgeous thing...lucky you!

Love the color in this cattleya orchid. Too bad you don't have the name. Still a beauty I would keep in my collection!

    cheers,

I feel your pain. Color accuracy is an area in which the old film cameras still excel.

Well at least this floof is doing well for you.

    Maura,

Sometimes it is better to use the flash. If the flash is to bright try with a tissue paper in front of the flash.
I'm a fan of dark red Cattleyas.

Thanks, Horst - I actually did try the flash, and even played with the white balance beyond setting it to "flash" - no luck. It wasn't that it was too bright - just not the right shade - and I tried it inside, outside, under daylight-spectrum, in direct sun, in indirect sun, in shade, under a cloudy sky, with incandescent lighting - multiple off-camera lights - it was just so elusive, I thought I was starting to see the colors wrong, but Phillip corroborated that I just couldn't quite get it. It's not that the photos are way off - just that they're slightly blander than the real ones, and the intensity of the colors even as it changed over time is pretty far below the reality. I do think Phillip could probably get it with his Mamiya medium format camera, but he hasn't been feeling well enough yet to do any photography.

Can you think of any other technique or adjustment that I could have made to get a more accurate color?
