I ran the name through Plantscope, the Dutch commercial plant registry - I couldn't find it there either.

I think I'm ready to give up on this mission.
A clonal name is only necessary in order to distinguish one plant from another, when both have the same name, but are not the same clone. When I raise a batch from a flask , obviously everything in the flask has the same name. If I flower them out, and I want to be able to distinguish them later, then some kind of additional name is necessary even if it as simple as #1, #'2 etc. These clonal names are not registered and have no formal meaning at all , so there is nothing to stop anyone giving all their plants clonal names. It does carry the suggestion that the plant bearing a name has been put up for an award , or maybe is thought good enough for that , so maybe its a bit dishonest if it is done unnecessarily.

Default Paradise Beauty 'Golden Angel' - name resolved . . .

I have really enjoyed this little miniature catt hybrid, but I'm having trouble with its ID. It came with a type-written tag that looks proper, but neither Orchidwiz nor RHS recognize the name--Potinara Paradise Beauty 'Golden Angel'.

I have found other pictures on the internet (even current vender listings) that seem to be clones of my flower with the same label, so I'm not the only one who has this problem.
    (snip)
Just seems so odd that it would have such a proper-looking, but meaningless name. Any ideas?
To Trish and others who have this cultivar I decided to post a follow-up to this thread . . .

The plant label in question carries a valid grex (hybrid) and cultivar (clonal) name, just the same as are on those labels, halla-Loo! Problem was that the cross didn't get registered until July 2014. ------------------

So... it's correctly Rlc. [syn. Blc.] Paradise Beauty 'Golden Angel' and as of this writing there are no AOS (or other) awards to it. it's parents are (Rlc. Haw Yuan Beauty X Rth. [Rhyncattleanthe] Haw Yuan Glory).

Your photo exactly matches the one I have in bloom in front of me (just bought mine yesterday) and also matches all the ones that I found by Googling images of it.

It's a really neat lilte compact cattleya hybrid and only 6- to 7-inches tall and the flowers are about 3-1/2-inches in diameter, a very decent size for such a smallish plant. It sometimes seems to have a slight bit of perfume, but quite faint. Maybe that could be due to it being so chilly and overcast here right now and perhaps when we get some sun again and it warms up a bit the perfume may become more pronounced. (So, were your flowers perfumed, Trish?)

This cross does show up now in the RHS's International Orchid Register for anyone who at this late date might still want to check it out.

So 'that's the rest of the story,' as Paul Harvey would have said.

    OK — HTH
