Sanyung Ruby was my first big catt rescue. I had to repot it while it was in bud, and it came through with flying colors (literally). However, it was among the victims of the Great October massacre, so it has joined yours, Yew, in Orchid Heaven.

Igor - you shall have to carry on for us. Great blooms, but I'm particularly partial to yellow - I love the last one.

Dear Yew- That is so bizarre! You are a great grower, so it is a mystery why it doesn't thrive. Now I am not always very diligent; sometimes I am even a bit neglectful... and yet my Blc S Ruby is very vigorous. Maybe the Grand Dragon clone is particularly adaptable, and maybe you had a different clone of this hybrid. Or perhaps your plant had been infected at some point by some pathogen? I hope you do find a replacement because I am certain if it performs for me it MUST peform for you.

I feel honoured by your positive comments- it is indeed high praise when it comes from you: I am sure everyone would agree.

Thanks Igor, for the vote of confidence but I'm a noted killer of hybrid phals and Oncidinae. Though most of my plants are cattelyas, I have found that the dark lavender types are not particularly suited to my growing regimen and conditions. A few friends of mine here have also found Sanyang Ruby difficult to grow successfully. Yes, the clone of my SR is a different one from yours - I can't remember the varietal name, but the colour is a ruby red.

This is all fascinating information YS, I tend to think folks in the tropics have it easy with orchids (ok, maybe not with the cool highland ones) but I clearly it is not so simple.
