Default The two faces of Rth. Love Avenue 'Serenade'

This is one of my favorite little potinaras. This is its third blooming and the best color intensity yet. The first bloom opened perfectly.

The second one seems to have gotten its petals stuck in its lip. LOL

Who knows what I've done to it that made this happen. Together, they remind me of the comedy & tragedy masks, except neither seems truly tragic to me.

LOL! Ya never know with these quirky little beings. Mine had some petals stick on its first blooming, second was fine. I think in my case it might have been a humidity issue. At any rate, both yours are lovely...the color is deeper that what I have seen yet on mine.

Love Avenue is a wonderful hybrid. Had a beauty a couple year ago but lost it. Have to keep my eyes open for another.

Wow beautiful flowers, I truly like your analogy If you are very careful you can put the petals and the lip in the right places. I have done it in the past and I have seen people do it at orchid shows.

    Default what name is correct

I am new to orchids but know enough that the names are still being sorted out...
I have seen this orchid under Cattleya, Rhynecattleanthe, potinaria, so what is it's current name?

Have you been using insecticides ? Some can damage the plant - and although you may have used "before the flower bud started" - in fact the buds were developing a long time before the sheath appeared.
A few examples. Some years ago Malathion was a superb insecticide, cleared up all kinds of pests ; but with phals, you found that some months after using it you got a spike out of the centre of the flower, and after that it never grew another leaf - what should have been a leaf had turned into a terminal spike. Another example - I had a serious black thrips infestation a year ago ( so did lots of UK growers) ; I sprayed frequently with all kinds of stuff. Then I started getting oncidiums with miniature flowers. That has passed, but I now have two plants in flower with some deformed flowers ; one has two lips , columns etc, in otherwise perfect flowers, the other has some flowers with only one petal, others with six or seven...
Fortunately in teh case of sympodial orchids like my oncidiums and your cattleya, they grow out of it, the following year, as long you learn the lesson and don't repeat the damage.
