Wink Hope for Vandas in the windowsil- Ascda. Peggy Foo x Vasco. Tham Yuen Hae

    My first vandaceous rebloom!

This is Ascda. Peggy Foo 'Pink' x Vasco. Tham Yuen Hae 'Blue Queen' , one of my Three Day Orchid Bender buys. She spent the summer outside in as much sun as I dared give her, but since September she has been hanging the south window in my laundry room with quite a bit of direct sun.

The flowers aren't quite as big as when I got her and by the time 6 buds were open, I couldn't wait to display her on the north side of the house, so the further up the spike the color is not as good, but I am very pleased with this blooming.

Congrats, Trish - I imagine vanda-types in Iowa in the winter are a bit of a challenge, so good growing!

Thanks everyone! I've been enjoying it for a couple of weeks, now. I have sniffed at it at different times of the day, but have not noticed fragrance.

Ken, I didn't get a full plant picture this time, but if you click on this link it looks about the same as back then-- 5 or 6 more leaves and more branches on the roots. It is in a bare plastic basket, about 15 inches tall, 13 inch leaf span and 21 inch roots. It started out this fall in the bathroom with 2-3 showers a day, but not enough light by winter. Now it hangs in my laundry room with not as much humidity, and my watering has been haphazard as I've tried to figure out what's best. Misting 2x day didn't seem to be enough. I tried bucket soaking for a while, but that made me nervous of crown rot. Lately I've been just giving it a good hose down in the sink every day. I have 3 other vandaceous types that do not have as extensive roots as this one does, and they are looking a little leathery. I've contemplated vase culture for these, but don't have the shelf space in high light.
