Cathy; I can't wait to see this Vanda in all its glory. What I see now is impressive. In full bloom this should be a natural wonder! AL

Yew, The mother plant has three. Most of the offsets are big plants. There are five total. So it really isn't one plant with that many spikes.

I have two lamellata plants – one is variety boxalli, very similar to this in flowers, but although quite free flowering nowhere near as good as this magnificent specimen. My flowers do have the two lateral sepals separated, unlike what we see here where they are almost joined along their length behind the lip ; I do see this occasionally with some other orchids, and I tease them apart, then let them spread naturally.
I looked up this species to see what I could discover about the varieties mentioned ; I have David Grove’s book – which IMHO is the best on Vandas , and you may be interested in what he says ;-
“given its wide distribution it is not surprising that here are several varietal forms;..the most attractive is Boxallii, which generally has more and larger flowers brightly coloured. The background ranges from light yellow to creamy white. ( My plain lamellate is a darkish yellow, ad my v. Boxalli is creamy white background) , the lip is rosy purple ; this is the variety most usually used in hybridization. Another variety is remediosa , which blooms three times a year ( my boxalli manages twice, the other only once ) and the inner half of the white lateral sepals are citron-green. Still another variety is calayana which has even more flowers on a long raceme.
Worth looking out for these varieties I think , although opportunities to buy are not frequent.

After salivating over Cathy's lamellata, I made the rounds of nurseries near my place and found one with a keiki. Not flowering but I hope it's as nice as Cathy's.

Geoff, thank you for the information. I'm looking for Grove’s book.
I've seen in photos calayana but have never seen if offered in my area. Again...thank you.
