I did have three different varieties many years ago ; one was the pale lemon yellow - all the same colour, tepals and lip , which I understood to be a 2n form. A second was similar to one shown above - two tone, darker almost orange yellow tepals and pale contrasting lip , which I was told was a 3n form , and the third was dark brown all over, and I was assured it was a tetraploid - 4n form. I have never got into chromosome counting ( tried it with paphs - they have much larger chromosomes likely to be visible at merely 100x magnification, instead of the usual 500-1000x) so I don't know if these statements are true. IT would be understandable if that were the case.
But they are all beautiful whatever the ploidy.

I like them all very much, but I wish I had that orange colored one the most. You just showed the Number One Orchid on my wish list! Now to find one.....By the way Geoff your information on chromosomes 2N form, 3N form, and 4N form is very useful. Thank you. AL

I have a hard time blooming this specie. Is'it very shy bloomer?? Culture is very misleading too, as some say its warm grower, while other say u have to keep it in V.coerulea like condition.

Hi wonderlen not really last year it gave me 3 to 4 times, talking about culture I agree relatively similar like coerulea but it's adapted very well with hot and warm in my place. Thanks.
