    Cool Christieara Sharifa Alsagoff

This vanda has amazing purple flowers. I was excited to see it blooming again so soon. I don't think I posted this when I bought it as the flowers were messed up. I bought it last fall at a sale held by a group of ladies that have amazing plants. I will be keeping an eye out for their next sale!

I am still learning about Vanda types myself. The big thing I think is how you water. Mine get misted a couple times a day, and hosed down at least every other day right now. Every couple days I mix a two gallon container of fertilizer water, sometimes adding a sea weed extract. The fine mist can be taken in by a plant easier than straight watering. Also; misting gets the entire plant wet, increasing it's ability to take in water and nutrients. Honestly I never got roots like this until I began misting them.

Congrats Connie for picking this orchid and for a very successful vanda culture. When you see the name 'Alsagoff' in an orchid name you can be assured of a great cross. Syed Yusof Alsagof was one of the longest serving President of the Orchid Society of South-East Asia (OSSEA) and is one of the foremost hybridizers in Asia. Aranda Noorah Alsagoff , named after one of his daughters is a well-loved aranda of SE Asia and Mokara Sharifah Alsagoff 'Nong' FCC,OSSEA is the first and only(?) FCC ever awarded by OSSEA. There are many other orchids that carry the 'Alsagoff' name, and without exception, all superb clones. BTW Syed Yusof was the Co-Chairman of the Show at the recent 20 World Orchid Conference.
