Beautiful flower, but I don't understand the name 'black x yellow'. How's the fragrance?

Typical tessellata fragrance Jeff. Smells like grape kool-aid. I bought this at Redlands many years ago. I never understood the crossing, either. I was told it had very nice form and color for a pink-lipped variety from the big Redland's festival orchid guy.

Just have to love that color combination. " black x yellow " Not what Claude Monet would have come up with.

I know this was imported as the tag was in a Indochina dialect that think was either Thai or Vietnamese. I've seen the 'black x blue' but this looks nothing like it. I went out and looked to see if that old tag was still attached. It wasn't. I might have kept it and stuck it in a draw in my desk. I'm going to look. I've thought that possibly it was mistranslated.

Can't remember having seen this one of yours before, Cathy - but definitely one of the better clones. Just love this colour, a welcome variation from the normal'basic' slate colour with greenish, bluish, yellow overlay. Without doubt one of the most exciting clone of tessellata. I hope somebody will make a repeat cross of V Mimi Palmer using this clone and a good Tan Chay Yan. Imagine a peach/salmon colour with those gorgeous tessellations!!! The mind boggles! I know the originator of V Mimi Palmer, Gem Nursery has ceased to exist but I fervently hope there is some brave soul out there who will repeat the cross with this particular tessellata.

Congrats Cathy on this tessellata and the photography!!!!

Yew Sung...thank you. It is one of my favorites of the species vandas. Do you remember the pink Mimi Palmer cross I have using Mimi Palmer 'Teo Boon Hian' HCC/RHT. It was the first photo I posted on here. It is in spike and will be opening soon.

Very nice indeed! I believe the Redland Orchid festival is coming now in May.
