A first flowering ( for me) of this primary hybrid - Christensonia vietnamica with its unusually shaped yellow and green flowers, crossed with the well-known Ascocentrum species - A.ampullaceum with its pink flowers.
As seen here, the Asctm is dominant for shape, and also the plant form - C.vietnamica has more shoreter thicker leaves in my experience ; an interesting colour coming from this combination.
I don't know how many flowers the parent vietnamica may have - my first plant flowered with only 3 or 4 , but that was also a first flowering seedling, and it soon succumbed ; I have another one or two plants now, growing nicely, but not yet flowering. On the other hand,, ampullaceum can certainly have say 20 flowers , so maybe Penang Sunset will do better when bigger ; I expect so. But its a nice addition to my small-flowered vandaceous plants - the flower size is about 2 cm or say 3/4 inch spread.

Well, I guess that I do too, but only up to a point... it seems to me that any unusual or "diferent" (flower)shape is the first thing to disappear, in a hybrid. But often they are much easier to grow, and I have to forgive them a lot for that. Consider Vanda coerulea on the one hand, and all the large blue Vanda hybrids on the other as a demo' of that point.

You are so right...the easier growing plants are such a joy. They bloom and grow so much nicer...at least for me anyways. I can forgive alot of a plant that blooms often. lol
