Dendrobium amethystoglossa – seems to be ever blooming on the old canes it had when I bought it. My third (?) try at this delightful species ? I couldn’t get any sensible cultural instructions, except the basic sort of thing you would say to anyone who wanted to grow any orchid, especially a sympodial one where annual cycles of growth are so clearly marked by new growths etc ( unlike the advice you would give for a monopodial even a phal) .
So I lost the first one, and the second never grew, never did a new shoot, or anything and not watered, eventually withered away.
But then I did use my brain for once, and found that it is a Phillipines orchid – so since I know a little bit about what the weather pattern is there - if one can possibly generalise about such a large collection of islands spread over such a large area (!) it was easy; hang it up and pretend it is a Renanthera or Vanda Luzon for example (which in my culture means spray almost every day ; never let it get dry... This plant has, since I bought it a year ago, produced over a dozen spikes, often two or more at a time, and three new growths, all pushing up very nicely. What a wonderful thing it is !

It's been found on Luzon, growing at 1000 mtr asl range, so it's cool for us and extremely hot for Brits, lol.
