Perhaps it has not been crossed as Cattleya amethystoglossa but may be as guttata as in former times Cattleya amethystoglossa was considered a variety of Cattleya guttata. It was recognised as a separate species in the late 1970s by then the orchid fever of crossing species had subsided as more and more hybrids were available to be crossed further. If you notice most of the Cattleya primary hybrids were first registered during the late 1890s and early 1910s. Also during those times flowering these huge bifoliates was especially difficult in temperate climates like in Europe. After the renaming no one might have considered crossing them as apart from just the novelty I do not see any advantage or superiority in the offspring. Just my thoughts.

I think you may have it, Amey! OWiz has an entry for Cattleye Feuillata (guttata x violacea), registered in 1897 by Maron, France. It shows no awards and no progeny. Here's your golden opportunity, Yew! Tag that thing and get it to a judging session!

Thanks Maura and Amey. Could very well be the very old cross of C guttata var amethystoglossa. Thanks Maura for the suggestion but orchid shows here are few are far between and moreover I have given up competitions long ago. No more exhibitions and judging for me now.

Oh, well, Yew - consider it having been given OT's highest flower quality award - as would most of your other orchids!
