Default Cattleya amethystoglossa x Cattleya violacea

This is a primary hybrid and I can't believe I couldn't find the registered name for it. I hope someone with Orchidwiz can help me out. This is the second rebloom - there were originally 5 buds but 3 were spoilt by thrips. It has very nice clean colour and those delightful amethystoglossa spots and has also inherited the heavy substance of the amethystoglossa. The violacea parent has contributed colour and form to this cross. Size of flower 4 inches. BTW on my computer the colour is very much like the original.

Nice primary hybrid Yew. As far as I can tell this hybrid has not been registered. It has been in trade for quite some years though. Many German nurseries have this plant which they import from Thailand. The photos though look very different. They are more amethystoglossa type than this one which is more like violacea. Looks beautiful. I send you a PM with the nursery here and the photo it shows. You can have it registered by your name Yew

Thanks Amey. I got it from a friend's nursery and he imported the seedlings from Thailand.Wonder if it's from the same nursery.

Beautiful! How tall are the spikes on this one? I can't find a registered name for this one in my version of OrchidWiz.

I've never heard about this hybrid, either. It is a beauty!

Same result here, Yew - nothing in the latest OWiz, although both amethystoglossa and violacea have been hybridized with just about every other species catt, as well as registered. I did find one interesting entry - C. Queen Yacine is a cross of violacea and Yen Amethys, which, you guessed it, is half amethystoglossa. No photos, unfortunately - it would be interesting to see what that looks like.

This is bifoliate; the pseudobulb is 8 1/2 ins (21cm) tall and the spike is 3 ins (8cm) tall.

Thanks everyone for your comments and taking the trouble to look up OWiz. Like Maura I'm puzzled as to why these 2 have not been crossed before.
