    Default Coilostylis ciliaris

A strictly seasonal bloomer for me -- and now 'tis the season. I do find the buds on mine seem to benefit from some rinsing as the buds reach maturity. Instead of the sticky droplets typically secreted by buds on my catts, these seem to acquire a starchy film which does make it more difficult for the buds to open. A gentle rinse with lukewarm water appears to help immensely.

I like the ghostly 'hands' at the tips of the lip's side lobes.

i think i have seen these listed as epidendrum before. very cool lips. do they have pbulbs? seems like someone would cross these with catts to get that incredible lip going in the hybrids.

Coeruleo is right, it is an Epidendrum. Kew lists Coilostylis ciliaris as a synonym to the accepted name Epidendrum ciliare, L., Syst. Nat. ed. 10, 2: 1246 (1759).

Not too long ago, Kew had changed it from Epidendrum (the name I first knew it by) to Coilostylis. Apparently the dotarding bilghters at Kew have again changed their minds. I truly have given up caring or keeping track of what those dolts choose to name things.

Or they have not changed their online checklist!

And I to hate the changing of names...
