    Default Cattleya Tahoe Rose

This is C. Tahoe Rose, a primary hybrid - the cross is C. walkeriana v. coerulea 'Little Boy Blue' HCC/AOS by C. purpurata 'Blue Sky' v. werkhauseri. The result is a blued lavender with lighter coloring on the sepals, darker on the petals, and very pronounced on the lip. It shows the influence of the C. purpurata, of course, but the walkeriana seems to have improved upon purpurata's usual shape issues.

Strangely enough, this cross has very few awards. It was registered in 1997 and has 1 HCC and 2 AMs. The most recent award (according to OWiz) was in 2006 - an AM of 84 points. I was unable to get to the monthly judging session yesterday, but I think this one would hsve caught the judges' eyes.

The color on this photo is very accurate.

In my books an excellent hybrid, but the paucity of awards clearly shows how unforgiving judges are when it comes to Cattleya judging. Someone has to break this stereotype of well rounded full floofy cattleyas
