    Thank you Maura.
Thanks for all that information, Eric - I find all these old crosses fascinating. I was honestly just curious, though, not trying to make a point about the particular name. 1897 seems to have been a big year for hybridizing!

This is a small blooming this year because I divided the plant in spring. Last year, I got 3 spikes with 8, 6 and 5 flowers.
I would pay at least 100$. Some even more crazy orchid lover would pay up to 300$.
    C. purpurata Gracicata ( C. purpurata "Graciana" x C. purpurata "Delicata") should be the seed plant.

Well talk about crazy and here I am hehe, I bought mine from likely the same German nursery for 58 Euros, it was a hot bid. I am really hoping it is the same cross now that I have seen these beautiful flowers. But the plant is exactly the opposite, like a miniature purpurata, one bud is out of sheath, we will see soon.

Amey, the bid was not hot for me. I was alone !
When the plant was small, all the pseudobulbs were monofoliate (like a small purpurata). The first to bloom was 15cm high + leaf. Now, it's like a very big forbesii.
I hope that you got the same cross or maybe a better one. Who knows.

Thanks Eric for the info. The des ription you provide exactly matches what I have now. roughly a 15 cm monofoliate with two buds. It is interesting how this monofoliate to bifoliate transition takes place.
