Angela, it is confusing, this plant was NEVER a Cattleya, is used to be an Otaara.

If you type this into a search engine it will bring up all the Intergeneric combinations of orchids ie All crossings with their current name.
Its worth keeping for reference, it does require a knowledge of the exact parentage of your plant.

    http://www.rhs.org.uk/Plants/Plant-s...../orchidgenus
PDF Alphabetical one-table List of Genera & Intergeneric Combinations is what you click on.

    OR

Refer to the RHS parentage and type in the Name or parentage of the plant &it will give you the current Genus its known by.
    Should be in everyones "favourites".

What does Otaara stand for, or is it a genus unto itself? Just wondering...I'm going to have to fix the picture now...too bad I can't fix the name of the thread too...this is going to bug me! LOL

Oh, and I can't get that first link to load...it just comes up blank.
The second one loads for me though. Thanks, Roy!

Thanks, Nicole! I have a side-business as a photographer, actually! I usually do portraits and weddings and stuff, but I'm starting to enjoy doing "glamour shots" of my orchids too! I photographed this orchid on an overcast day, in natural light from a window above. I used black velvet as a backdrop because it absorbs light and doesn't reflect much, so it naturally disappears in the final photo.

It helps that she's photogenic, too...

Otaara = Brassavola, Cattleya, Broughtonia & Laelia. Plants were separated out of this genus because plants in the Laelia section were renamed as Cattleyas & the Brassavola's were separated, the one used in most Catt' breeding, Brassavola digbyana is now Rhyncholaelia digbyana as from Brassavola nodosa which is also used in Catt' breeding.
If your not confused by now, you've done well.

Brutal Dreamer ( BD ) may be able to fix it for you....

It is a very beautiful Cattleya alliance hybrid Did you see what I just did there hehe. I have one, but it is a reluctant bloomer under my conditions. Great photo too ! I am getting the idea as you too have mild OCD hehe.

You go for it Jenn. I am not about to go out to my Orchid house and change any tags. This will be quite a job, and send me completely off the cliff trying to reclassify them all.
What will happen is, any new plants I get that are already tagged with these terribly long and ugly names, I will leave those tags on. This of course will add even more confusion in my Orchid house. Am I not going to have Fun???????????????????????
