Default Ascda. Yip Sum Wah 'Red Berry' AM/AOS

This is a old plant that really needs to be rejuvenated by dividing it. I have several of these old Yip Sum Wah clones in spike and all are really ugly plants. They look like palm trees and not in a good way
I think it is amazing the difference in bloom size in the modern day hybrids of Ascdas.

Nice YSW Cathy & remember, you wouldn't have many of todays great hybrids with out a YSW.

Cathy - this Ascda Yip Sum Wah is really beautiful. I love the blooms. Sorry you are disappointed with its growth habit - but the blooms are amazing.

    cheers,
    BD

One of the most beautiful color and flower ever and yes they do have a tendency of growing like palm trees as they age.

Wonderful colors! Beautiful! I agree with Roy, Yip Sum Wah is in the ancestry of many of the modern vanda hybrids. Martin Motes talks about it in the breeding section of his book on vandas.

Zain I will take a picture of the plant. They just get to an ugly stage when there is nothing on the bottom and only have straps on the top. Because this is such an old plant I've always been scared to do anything with it. If I lost it, I don't think I could replace it.

And I agree with the all on the ancestry. It is still used. I just bought a batch of seedlings of a Yip Sum Wah x Mimi Palmer 'Teo Boon Hian' and another using V. tessellata 'RF Orchids' The 2nd vanda I ever purchased was a Yip Sum Wah many years ago. The guy I purchased it from is now a bulbo hybridizer.
