I can't recall ever seeing this colour before. I just could not resist adding it to my collection.

PS have just checked it out in Orchid wiz - it seems that I misread the label, that should be Jye not Lye ; but this is a far, far finer thing than the variety illustrated in that source.

I bought it at the British Congress at the week-end - along with one or two other interesting things - a Schombo x catt hybrid, a Neofinetia x Papiolanthe hybrid, a good blue cluster catt', and an assortment of mini species. BTW I got a couple of ribbons - for a Masadevallia and for my Howeara Lava Burst which was second in the Oncidiniae xclass. In view of the very high standard at the show, I was very pleased with that.
I may post some pics, but I used my iPad camera, and whilst the file size is big enough for a decent pic, maybe the lens isn't, and I am a bit disappointed there.

Congrats on the awards, Geoff! But more so on that new catt of yours --exquisite coloration! I don't know that I have ever seen such a rich, dark purple before.

Congrats on the awards! That Catt has such deep velvety color...it's lovely! I'm assuming it's quite a large flower.

That color is positively regal. Better than any Byzantine Emperor ever wore. I am impressed! AL

My guess is about 5 inches, maybe a little bigger. I did not actually get that specific plant - that was the one on show - but bought its sister ( meristem) in bud. Should be genuine - it is from a Taiwanese nursery who visit our shows, and I have often bought from them before . In fact I could have bought ar more - they have such lovely things - but space and other considerations held me back.
