This is a discussion on Bc. Pearly Shell and Bc. Maikai Mayumi within the Cattleyas, Vandas, Dendrobiums IN BLOOM forums, part of the Orchid Photography category; I posted what I thought was 'Pearly Shell', and then my other Maikai opened. So ...
I posted what I thought was 'Pearly Shell', and then my other Maikai opened. So the one I had posted earlier was actually Maikai Mayumi...neither had a tag anymore. Now that I see them together I can see the Maxima influence on the Pearly Shell...you can see in the last picture the plants aren't even the same green color even though they have been getting the same sun levels.

WOW! What beautiful catts you have blooming. Congratulations.
Both are beautiful! This is the time of year for Maikai. Mine is in bloom also. I love the way you're growing those, mounted and in baskets.

If it wouldn't be for the different green, I would say this are flowers from the same plant.
The flowers on the 'Pearly Shell', are also larger by at least an inch. When I hung them next to each other I was suprised at how much larger they were. Both plants were repotted at the same time. The pearly shell ended up in two pieces or it might be as large as the Mayumi...the other pearly shell is mounted on a large piece of driftwood.
