Absolutely nothing wrong with this Glenn, I have some oldies too. I just find it strange that these "old favourites" are still being produced. Their age & potential of over cloning can & does reduce much of what was there in the first place. Some look very different to the original.

You know Glenn, coming back to look here has made me realise that it is the Cymbidium which I find more attractive! WHAT??? I know, how random is that? Obviously I have been subconsciously trying to ignore my admiration of Cymbidiums because they are a bit tricky for me. I am a monster. Well, well.

Thanks for the compliment on the cym, Igor. Unfortuneately the Black Caesar blooms have not lasted since I last made this posting. It has bowringiana in its background so its bloomspan is short lived. However, it is very prolific in its growth so I should get a specimen plant very quickly.

I think I am secretly drawn to cymbidiums because they are such a challenge to grow in my climate. I never liked the easy route. I have been buying flasks, seedlings and anything with heat tolerance in its background. I have scoured the internet and vendor lists for anything that will have grow in the tropics. Thank you for your interest

Have you tried Cymbidium sinense, C Golden Elf, C iridioides, C Chen's Ruby..? Elegant and warm growing.

I envy your outdoor conditions... I would immediately plant masses of Phaius. I've never fully recovered after seeing a huge Phaius tankervilleae at a show: total knockout! And it's a terrestrial too.

Beautiful dark flowers on a healthy looking plant.
Although some leaves are a bit dark.
I wonder if more light would make it even better next year.

Thank you Horst. You are right, I think its too dark also. I was hesitant to move her because of the Summer sun, now that its winter here it is growing in a full exposure. I am hoping it will acclimate and toughen-up for its next showing

Gorgeous - all! I tried a Cym. Golden Elf in heat-soaked Atlanta last year - not quite the right place for an orchid that is merely "heat-tolerant", I guess. Actually, not quite the right place for most orchids - outside, I mean.
