Beautiful! I love this species, if our winters here were just a touch warmer I'd grow them outside all year round.

kitty, i grow mine outside!! all year round. they are just beginning to have swollen nodes, the first sign of either a flower stem or keiki. but this year i did water them a bit more than last year, and i delayed their dormant phase by a month because the weather seemed more appropriate. i like getting a mix of flowers and keikis for now... there are places up in santa barbara that sell a ton of varieties of this dendrobium and many hybrids made from it. they all do well outside here. only have to pull them in if it frosts, and i have heard of them doing well down to 28f. i am just now beginning to step up their watering schedule a little. you will love how these fill the air with perfume. but this one you really have to be brave and just not water them in winter. maybe a little spray on warm winter days, or water when they look like they actually might really die. but not more than once a month for sure. some varieties don't really need such severe treatment, and some do, but all are supposed to bloom much better that way.

so it began to open buds in mid-april. some of those first stems are dying off, but many spikes are open now in mid-may, and more are coming. it has flowered later than last year by at least a month, but that is from allowing it to go dormant later i think. as usual, the scent is just amazing.
it is still in the cheap half-gallon nursery pot of soil it came in. i have not re-potted yet.
