I love my catt hybrids, but when I have a species flower out, oh how I do appreciate the purity and simplicity, which is sometimes lost in the gaudier hybrids.

5 inches or so across ; scentless this evening - if we get some sunshine - haha - fat chance this late winter in Western Europe ! - I'll report again.

It probably is some kind of variety - but the label is pure and simple too.Maybe its just the type . IOSPE btw has an absolutely horrible flower as an illustration - apparently one Jay found on one of his wanderings. Pity. ( But I find its no use me sending him better pics, maybe they are just rejected since they come from outside UK, and maybe therefore contain some horrid worm or whatever...)

It is lovely Geoff! The typical flower is pale lavender-pink with a lip that has a rich fuchsia midlobe, like yours.
Your correct on the IOSPE pic. Jay has a not so good pic of the aquinnii variety. Your pic of the type would be more appropriate.

That's a beautiful species! I should look into getting one of those. That's an excellent photograph also. Well done.

Oh, Geoff - such elegance and beauty!! Your ability to convey the essence of the subject in a photo is unsurpassed. Jay would be extremely fortunate to have such a photo on IOSPE.

The IOSPE section on Cattleya rupestris, or C. crispata, or whatever it is that they're calling it today, could use some work as well. His photo of the plant in situ is deplorable. But, should Jay read this thread and become offended or depressed, I will add that I use his site constantly and that I've nearly always found it to be invaluable. He has a lot of material to marshall.
