Default Orange-red mystery Cattleya - In full bloom finally!

The mysterious Cattlaeliaguaranthewhoknows that I bought tightly budded and badly staked about 6 weeks ago or so has burst into magnificence. This is one of the most beautiful Cattleya alliance orchids I have seen. From the shape of the lip, and the color, I have to wonder if there isn't some Richard Mueller in it somewhere. Surely SOMEONE will recognize it!???!?

It has about 40 blooms/buds, on four spikes. The whole plant is 28" tall, and the average blooms are about 2 inches across. They sit at the top of about 6" spikes.

Thanks, everyone! Now I need someone with OWiz to follow aurantiaca hybrids until we find this one. I won't have access to mine until next weekend.

Love a good guessing game. Can we see a clearer picture of the whole plant? Does it show any of the color change so common in Richard Mueller hybrids?

I don't suspect any Richard Mueller in this one. The lip, the splashes seen on the petals are all characteristics of a cross between a Cattlianthe and Laelia briegeri.

I'll try to upload that shot again - the OT uploader was giving me trouble with it. The blooms are a bit yellower at the beginning, and then turn slightly redder - none are older than a week or so, so I can't say whether they'll darken further.

Gorgeous display and beautifully photographed, Maur! My first reaction was a Richard Mueller cross but I'll leave the ID to the experts.
