    Default Blooming out of season

Lc. Frosty Pink 'H&R' has only bloomed in the fall for the last six years. I was surprised to get this one spike with seven flowers in the spring. The plant is two feet tall and it's growing in a 10" wood basket. It has a beautiful sweet fragrance.

Just out of curiosity, the name of this orchid is "Frosty Pink," but it appears more lavender on my computer screen. Is it really lavender or is it more pink than it appears?

And I, too, like how the p-bulbs are all standing in neat little rows like little soldiers. Having started collecting more Catts, I've become particularly appreciative of the ones with upright habits that don't make you tie all the darn leaves or stake all the p-bulbs to keep them from injuring themselves by flopping into surrounding orchids' territories and causing a spill.

I recently acquired a HUGE monster Catt that has stiff, hard-as-nails p-bulbs growing at all kinds of weird angles. It's driving me a bit nuts because of the wacky habit, but I can't really tie the growths together to make them more upright, because they're stiff as a board and don't budge! (On the bright side, my son knocked the Catt down a flight of stairs, and when it went flying out of its pot and bounced roots-over-leaves all the way down, not a single bulb, root, or leaf was even the SLIGHTEST bit damaged. This plant could probably be used as a weapon if anyone ever attempted to break into my home). Ah, well ... it's always an adventure, right?

So... is it lavender or pink? It's gorgeous either way!!
