    Cool Vascostylis Tham Yuen Hae

This is a new one. I let it bloom out and tomorrow the spike comes off so the plant can concentrate on growing new roots. I need to find a cute vase to put the flowers in so I can enjoy the adorable things a little longer. The flowers are an inch across and I am hoping as the plant gets healthier and grows some new roots it will also increase the size of the flowers. If not, oh well...I am in love with the color. The picture with the Hibiscus flower was the best match to the actual color of the flowers. The hibiscus was a gift from an OrchidTalk friend years ago; it arrived as a stick with roots and is now about 6 ft. tall.

How interesting to see growth in a cedar basket. They are much nicer than the horrid little plastic baskets used now in Thailand. Hard to come by in the accessory trade in UK too , I guess they cost too much to manufacture, and they do rot if they don't get well dried out by sunshine - and perhaps if they are always dry so that they don't rot, they are not much use for growing .
I love these small vandaceous flowers ; so much more interesting than the big straight Vandas. In fact I am getting rid of most of my large flowered ones, one way or another; but since I have been "on them" for more than 20 years that is not surprising. I don't think it is fickle, to lose a bit of interest in that length of time ? But the orchid family is so large that there is always something else clamouring to fill my benches.
