The fragrance of C. labiata is very distinct, pleasant and long lasting.
I'm not an expert in fragrance, but it isn't sweet.

Horst - how do you get the blooms to open properly when you have so many on a spike? I find mine get all tangled up in each other.

    Maura,
Several reasons why they don't get all tangled up in each other.

    1) My plants are growing outdoor 24 hours. From the first glimps of light in the morning until the last they are exposed to the natural light intensity and can react accordingly in a natural way when they open.
Very important is the fact that nothing like walls, houses are obstructing the light intensity during a period of time every day. If an obstruction happens flowers have the tendency to develop in a restricted direction.

    2) C. labiatas unlike other unifoliate Cattleya species have the tendency to open more organized and better lined up.

    3) C. labiatas are not as big as other unifoliate Cattleyas. 5 to 6 inch (13 to 15 cm) is standard. While other species like C. mossiae, C. trianae, and C. warscewiczii can get bigger than 6 inch.

Beautifully formed flowers and impressive blooming.

The definition of concolor usually means color of lip is same as petals, and a yellow throat with no or little red pigments. This flower looks like it has more red stripes in throat than what is accepted as concolor. Any experts offer their take on this?
