Absolutely beautiful! I like the second picture, they are lined up so nicely and you were able to capture all of them facing the camera.

    Very beautiful flowers.
The flower shape looks much like C. purpurata which by the way is one of the ancestors.

That is one beautiful orchid. Please educate me; is that a species? I know by reading the tag it is a hybrid, but it looks like a species to me. Can two species that are crossed be hybrids? Wait, did I just answer my own question...

This is a complex hybrid, with six species in its background, Laelia (Cattleya) purpurata, Brassavola nodosa, Cattleya nobilior, Laelia anceps, Cattleya trianae and Cattleya harrisoniana. It does have the appearance of simplicity and clean lines that often characterize species, and it does look much like its Laelia (Cattleya) purpurata ancestor. Some other examples of this hybrid are more obviously hybrid in appearance.

For man-made hybrids, if you cross 2 species, or a species and a hybrid, or 2 hybrids, you get a hybrid, period. You can never get back to being a species by making more crosses.

I have to say, there are very few plants that give a display you can get a nice picture of. I have a few plants, all with Laelia tenebrosa in them, that line up beautifully as well. I take a ton of pictures. Digital cameras allow one to get that perfect picture. I usually take anywhere from 5-15 pictures of a single plant in flower...full sun, under the shade and I will change backgrounds, sometimes sitting them with another plant for effect. I am developing an appreciation for those pictures we see in books. It must take a gazillion shots to get some that we see. Of course, I also have all day to sit and take pictures too. Being home all day can be boring, but it also has it's advantages when raising orchids....
