I bought a small 'Nora' from Carter and Holmes 2 months ago. Maybe I should mount it on cork so that mine looks half as wonderful as yours.
What do you tie the orchid with? A friend told me she lays them flat until the orchid adheres to the mount. Your Nora is soooo pretty !!!

LOL I would be WAAAAAAY out of my comfort zone trying to mount a Catt.

And I noticed you didn't wrap any sphag around the roots to hold in moisture (my bellatulum came with a blob of sphag over the roots)... how often do you need to mist/soak this little guy to keep him happy with the roots completely exposed like that? Is it in a greenhouse?

Thanks for answering questions for us mounting newbies....
In South Florida many people grow orchids on mounts or on trees because it's naturally hot and humid here and during the summer it rains several times a week. I haven't used any sphagnum on my mounted orchids because it rains so often this time of year that root rot and fungus are a much bigger problem than dehydration. We had a 30 day stretch last year, where it rained every single day. When I first mounted it, I made sure it got water every day. Now that it has some good roots I try to make sure it gets water two or three times a week but less in the winter. The biggest problem with mounted orchids is displaying them. You can't bring a mounted orchid in the house and set it on a table when it's in bloom. I'm pretty new at mounting though, so I definitely still have a lot to learn.

I've only been mounting orchids a short time. Small cattleyas seem to like being mounted but I'm not sure it's the best thing for the grower. I need to water and fertilize more often and I can't bring the orchid in the house and display it on a table when it's in bloom. As far as technique, I used velcro tape that I found near the trellises at my big box hardware store. The orchid was in a 2.5" pot and I took out of the pot and strapped whole root ball, even the mix that didn't fall off, to the mount. I also grow orchids in 6" wood baskets with big chunks of cork or tree fern or lava rock. It's just like mounting but the basket can sit on a table if I want to do that. One thing to be aware of is that if an orchid is on a mount or in a wood basket, it's there to stay. It's almost impossible to repot it.
