Another cattleya in bloom. This tiny plant is one proficient bloomer and the red flowers are huge in comparison to the leaves. If I could only keep a few cattleya, this one would have to be one of the keepers.
This picture is from the last blooming in December, 2012. I happened across it when looking up the tag. Oops...well last blooming photographed and posted for my family on facebook. This actually blooms every 2-3 months, or as each new p-bulb is maturing. The bud emerges while the leaf is still growing, which is a new thing for me. I had previously thought I'd done something wrong when plants had done this before. Apparently with some cattleya it is normal.
Way to go, Connie!
Great color! I appreciate you sharing your feelings about this orchid. There's so many qualities that make a great orchid, other than the appearance of the flower itself. Some of my favorite orchids aren't necessarily the prettiest. I'm always interested in knowing which orchids people really like after living with them for a few years. I'll keep my eye out for this one. Beautiful.
definitely a keeper!!
Connie, what a wonderful color!
that's a great red! good to know catts can bloom more than once a year... i didn't know that. i usually avoid orchids that only bloom in one season if possible. i only have one, an lc trick or treat and it seems to have a regular schedule of growth and blooming. early to mid-summer.
