Default Vanda denisoniana X Vanda Malini

My quest to acquire a denisoniana has been a rocky road to travel down. Over a year ago I found a Golden Doubloon online and ordered it, the nursery called me to say the Doubloon had fallen and another plant had landed on top of it, they were sending me the plant for free, but sold me this one in it's place. The doubloon was in bad shape and is just now making a comeback. A few months later i found a nursery online that carried a denisoniana and ordered one, what I got sent was a mess of a plant that I can't believe anyone would sell, but with some tlc it is making a slow comeback. I was excited when this one came into bud, but did not expect this. When I look up this cross I find it listed as Ascda Malini X V denisoniana and the photos show a yellow bloom. The colors of mine are a bit muddled up and at first I thought the brown edges were a mistake due to something I did, but all have opened up with the same color pattern. As the bloom is aging it is losing the bright pink color and becoming a more spotted pink/brown combo, while I don't hate it, it is not what I expected and figure it is mislabeled, however the fragrance at night is fantastic, so I am not completely disappointed.

I take great care with new vanda plants. I soak them in an anti fungal, systemic bug killer, superthrive and honey warm water mix. Remove really icky roots and let them have a little extra shade for a couple weeks. When you see new roots you can begin moving them back to higher sunlight. So far the only vanda plants I don't have root issues with after they arrive are the little ones that come in pots.

I have no idea how I just did that. Apparently orchids aren't the only things I know little about. Sorry!

I have a V denisoniana x Ascda Malini and it is yellow with the most delightful fragrance. Yours is a very beautiful Ascocenda which obviously has denisoniana in its parentage. The colour may be due to the variety of denisoniana used or it could be inherited from the Ascda Malini. Whatever, it has very fine form and colour. I wouldn't dismiss it as wrong labelling.

Well, I've seen the yellow, but here is one I've never seen before. It is the same cross, Ascda. Thongtong Classic (V. denisoniana X Ascda. Malini), but check out the blooms! It is on ONE inflorescence, and the yellow ones are not dying or shriveling (that was my first thought). This belongs to a friend and when he told me about it, I was skeptical. When I saw it, I had to take some pics. I have one, too, but it is not blooming yet. I got it from the same friend that owns this odd-ball.
