    Default Cattleya something freaky?

    Hi folks,

for those who know me, I don't particularly care for Cattleya's and such, but this one flowered for the first time out of my older collection, and I am not sure what to make of it.
    Is it a freak flower?
    Btw, no fragrance on it.

That bloom looks like it belongs on a totally different kind of orchid. Not a freak, just a unique beauty.

    cheers,

The bloom looks deformed to me. I've seen that when growers use more than one growth stimulation product at a time. For instance if you use SuperThrive and a seaweed extract in the same month you can get deformed flowers. If you do use a growth stimulation product or hormone product use only one and don't use more than the label recommends. If you don't use those than I don't know what else would cause it. Possibly bad genetics.

    Thanks Jeff,
I don't fertilize at all. Bad genetics would be really bad...let's see how the next flowering turns out. Meanwhile i am hoping to get some insights here what it possibly can be and i don't rule out any "strange" hybrids.

I am not even going to pretend that I know what this is. I do know that if I had and decided to keep it I would isolate it from my other plants.

Lucky this is June and not April. Agrees - weird. Maybe it's the heat.
