    Lucky you, Ed.

I acquired my ascocendas, I watered, i fussed, I neglected. They died anyway. The roots just began to dry up. And the fat lady began to sing.

You have the most healthy and gorgeous seemi-terete vandas and Mokaras -----maybe you gave the strap leaf ascocendas too much sun, the same amount you give your semi teretes and mokaras.

You may be right, Yew Sung. Since I have a limited growing area, the only orchids separated from the vandaceous hybrids are the species ones which prefer heavy or partial shade like the Aerides lawrenciae, the Phal intermedia and the rhynchostylis, among others.

However, my ascocendas did not die right away. The leaves were not burnt. They thrived for one to two years, with lovely blooms, before they died. And that unidentified red vandaceous I just posted, Ed suspects it to be an ascocenda. That has been under the sun with the semi-teretes for about a decade now. But I'll take your advice and try planting it in a shadier spot if I get another ascocenda.

Please see my thread An Orange Ascocenda noid.
