    Default Lc Netrasiri Starbright

This cattleya caused me a lot of embarrassment when I first posted a picture of it. It was mislabelled by the vendor with a name of one of Horst's hybrids and Horst pointed this out to me.After some words with the vendor and some correspondence between vendor and supplier the name has now been corrected to Lc Netrasiri Starbright. Again my apologies to Horst.

As this picture was taken outdoors under an overcast sky the waxy texture of the blooms does not show in the photo. However the colour is quite accurate (at least on my computer screen)/

As with all the 'Starbright' Hybrids this one is a delightful colour. I love it.
Not to take away from your beautiful flowers, may I ask you what causes the black spotting on some Catt. leaves (as in your pic.) I have a couple with these spots and cannot figure out what is causing it. The spots are on the top surface of older leaves only, and the plant is in otherwise good condition. Do you have any idea?

I really don't know Angela. I find that this occurs mostly on the bifoliates that grow in the brighter part of my orchid house. The unifoliates don't seem to have this problem. Incidentally this doesn't seem to affect the blooms or the flower count but the plants do look unsightly. The only cause I can think of is that during watering droplets of water sticking to the leaves act as mini magnifying glass causing sunburn.

Gorgeous color flowers! Mine get the spots as well. Someone once told me that pretty plants do not bloom. If you grow inside a greenhouse year round you can get beautiful plants with perfect leaves, but growing outside it is not that way. I have some that look their worst when they bloom. I've learned to not worry about it and give them a couple minor nutrients to help them deal with the heat. That is why I don't show mine. My plants sometimes look awful...lol.

I can only say "If only"....

Perfect foliage is a difficult thing. I used to use foliar feeding (occasionally) alternating Calcium nitrate one month and Magnesium sulphate the next month. Good for growth, but I always had marked and spotted leaves . I then tried spraying everything with Physan monthly - something which the Eric Young Foundation used to do - and their culture has to be seen to be believed ; but Physan is unobtainable in UK ( or Europe) now.
In the recent years as I got interested in the smaller vandaceous species and hybrids, I started spraying them almost daily ; and now I grow all my cattleyas on branches or other bits of wood, I spray all of them daily . But all that spraying is just rainwater, sometimes with a dash of disinfectant. So a lot of water on the leaves. But nevertheless my foliage is better and cleaner than before. But perfect - no, that is a rather rare thing.
