    Default Dendrobium Kedah Suzuki

The last time I posted pictures of this dendrobium was on April 17th 2012 when I first bought it and it was tagged Den Frosty Dawn x suzuki but now I am told it has been named Den Kedah Suzuki. I'm not sure how legitimate the name is as this has not been registered.

I don't know anything about the names, but it sure is cute. I like the contrast of colors and the warm happy aspect of it.

Oh they can name it whatever they want, Yew Sung, but it won't take away anything from the beauty of this dendrobium. I've never had a dend that blooms directly on the stem. Or does this have a very short spike that is not visible in the photo?

Yes, Angel, the spike is very short around 3/4 inch and bears 2- 4 flowers on each short spike, giving the impression that the flowers grow directly from the p-bulb. This type of orchids belong to the Formosae family of Dendrobiums or the nigro-hirsute dendrobiums with short black hair on the p-bulbs. These have been called everlasting orchids as the flowers last up to 3 monts here.

The parents are Den Frosty Dawn x suzukii. Den Frosty Dawn = Dawn Maree x Lime Frost; Dawn Maree = formosum x cruentum; Lime Frost = cruetum x scabrilingue. All of these dedrobes are in the Formosae family. There is no bracteosum in the hybrids and bracteosum, incidentally is in the Pedilonum family. As you can see from the cross, cruentum occurs twice in the parentage, while suzukii occurs in the last crossing. There is some controversy re suzukii, which some regard as another form of cruentum. Thus the influence of cruentum is very strong in this hybrid as per the form and colour of the tepals.

Yew, of couse I thought Dendr. cruentum and not bracteosum. Actually, I can see some diffrencies between Dendr. cruentum and Dendr. suzuki.
