thanks Al, I find bark for me is the kiss of death, especially for vandas, I have used charcoal or tree fern at times and have had good results if roots are bad, I will use very light moss for a month or so to help roots get started but then remove it, turns to black mush in our weather.

Beautiful ! Love the spots and the lip colour.

Ed, since you seem to be growing outdoors, have you tried just letting your Vanda roots hang freely? (no basket, no pot. just the stem tied securely to a long wire for hanging)

thanks Angela, I'm loving this one also. Most of my hanging vandas are in the typical plastic vanda basket, I have a few in terracotta vanda pots with holes all over, some semi teretes I'm growing in large pots filled with treefern, charcoal, or broken pottery I've run out of hanging room and have these sitting on the ground on the east side of my growing area, I have a few that are on wire only, that I received from the grower like that and I know it is a preferred way for many and I understand why, but here is my reasoning why I am hesitant to convert more that way, the cold snaps we get I protect my plants but the ones on a wire seem to lose the most bottom leaves and I was wondering if the wire was acting like a conductor for the cold and then thought if it could act that way with heat also, I realize this is probably very faulted reasoning, I hold no science degree. I will also add the photos of your growing area helped me with my semi and teretes, I loved the "beds" you made with coconuts to grow them, I had to adapt it for here to deal with our cold snaps and keep things movable, thanks again.
