Default Cattleya skinneri 'Orchidglade' x self

The skinneri catts have been putting up a good show this year. This one is soft-pastel pink, almost bluish. Quite nice!

The skinneris are gorgeous Hoa! I loved the first, until I saw the Orchidglade!

Its pale pink reminds me of C. Victoria-Regina, a naturally occurring hybrid from Brazil. It's a cross of C. labiata and C. leopoldii. The drawings I've seen are of a lovely pale pink flower, so I'd imagine the labiata would need to be one of the pink vars to get that pale a result.

    Thanks for sharing your flowers!

    Thanks, Julie.
So you like that pastel pink, eh? The C. skinneri 'Orchidglade' is supposed to be blue-ish and that is very rare for this species. A division of the original Orchidglade cultivar could fetch several hundred of dollars! A selfing of this plant, which is what I have is much more affordable and easier to get. It might not be as great as the mother plant but I think it is still quite nice. I was hoping it is more blue but I guess this is what lot of people call "blue".
    Cheers. Hoa.

Beautiful skinneris... my preference is for the var. alba... although I'm imagining a collection of different types of skinneris... hmm, is this another downhill slide.....

I have many different skinneri varieties. The blooms from one variety were nibbled by a slug so they look horrible, hence no picture for that one this year. The skinneri are great catts. They could get really really huge! I used to grow them outside in Southern Cal. Most of the bifoliate catts do very well outside over here. Tim, you don't need a greenhouse to grow these. BTW, don't blame me on your downward slide! Hehehehehe! I just entertain you guys with the pictures!
    Cheers. Hoa.

I have not posted anything in my most favorite thread for a long time. Well, blooming season for the catts is almost over. Most of them are turning their attention to growing, making roots and new shoots. So we just have to wait longer for our fix of the floofy catts ...

This classic catt is Mother Day's Special. I believe these lavender catts were bred to bloom at this time of the year for Sale around Mother Day (?). The blooms just open this weekend so they are not fully mature yet. But still very lovely!

    Default Cattleya Interglossa

A primary hybrid between Cattleya amethystoglossa and Cattleya intermedia, first made by Thayer in 1902. I have no idea how it got into my collection. First bloom though!
