ALMOST!-- Darn it. There was only one plant and it was in a two and one-half inch pot. It was not for sale, but was on the raffle table. We put all of our tickets into the cup for the psychopsis. When it came time for the drawing, the guy doing the drawing walked over to my table and asked me to draw out the winning ticket. My first thought was 'what if I draw Louis and my number?' but then 'What if I don't!!!!'...anyway a nice little old lady who always smiles won. I am not sure she even knew what kind of orchid it was, but she was sure happy to win. I am happy for her. Next month is our big society auction and vendors from all over the US have sent us plants. I am sure there will be a psychopsis in that bunch. I am keeping my fingers crossed anyway!

    Cheers!

    Hi Diane,
Thanks! I also notice the blooms this time from the Toshie Aoki has an extra dose of pizzaz!

    Hi Cin,
Well, I don't have many of these, and it's hard to depart from them ...

    And hellooooo McJulie,
Your Alma Kee has until November to bloom. I think it will bloom on the two new growths. It tends to make the growths then waits awhile. Just give the plants more light if you can when it's still growing. My Alma Kee used to bloom in October/November. I gave my catts so much light this year and they all seem to bloom earlier.

    Hi Bruce,
Thanks! Can't part with that Toshie yet. In time, mon ami! Blue catts are in demand these days, I think! I have some ideas for breeding large blue catts but I need a proven diploid white catt. Most white catts I think are tetraploids. I could be wrong about this, and I am trying to check on this but have not gotten the time.

    Cheers. Hoa.

Default Cattleya labiata var. amoena 'Fowliana'

Gorgeous fragrance! Understated beauty and I love it. I posted it last year in an earlier catt/laelia thread!

Default Blc. Toshie Aoki 'Pizzaz' x Blc. Goldenzelle 'Wishful'

    Hi Jason,
Thanks! The Alma Kee does get its color from the dowiana. We can not grow the dowiana but we can definitely grow the hybrids. When I exhibited that Alma Kee at my recent orchid society's meeting, members loved it so much for its vibrant beauty and the head judge said over here in Southern Cal, we can't grow the parent species but we can grow and bloom the hybrids! Go figure!

Gorgeous salmon color catt hybrid! Lovely fragrance as well! It got great parentage!
    Cheers. Hoa.

    Default Blc. Lucky Strike

A gorgeous cultivar! The time of true floofs has arrived with these giant lavender catts! This year, this plant puts out a spike with 4 buds and when they open, Gigantic Flowers, 10 in. from head to toe! McJulie, you definitely can fall into them and get lost! Heheheheeeee ... Another lavender clone has a head of seven 8 in.-flowers! Heheeheee ...

    Cheers. Hoa.

Wait! I think...yes, here it is! Phew...I found an air pocket in the floofy lip that currently engulfs me! I had a rough go of it there. My sweatshirt got stuck to the column and it took me 45 minutes to work myself free. Had to sacrifice the sweatshirt, but that wasn't even the tricky part...I had to refute the advances of an amorous wasp - very carefully!
