THE Getty is (arguably) the for most art collection and museum in the United States. Funded entirely by the J. Paul Getty estate. They have more money and artwork than brains... (the foundation that is) They built a HUGE new building on a hill overlooking the LA basin a few years back. There are 6 sections in the new museum, plus the original "villa" on the Pacific Coast Highway. The villa has only Greek and Roman art, the new museum has a little of everything else. It takes an estimated 6 days to view all the current exhibitions.... Entry is free to everyone - but parking is $8.

LJA remembers when there was just the villa and it was about to be condemned!

    Cool!

And it doesn't surprise me that Yoda remembers the last crumbling days of the Greek and Roman civilizations...

Old is he; and carries much wisdom, he does.

I've been wondering how Daybreak was doing; glad to see she's doing so well. She's so beautiful it's hard to believe that it was hard to find a plant when you needed to do so.

I hadn't seen this thread until just now! There were 3,000 posts to read through yesterday, and I saw that Hoa had updated this thread. He usually posts photos in here for a couple of days running, so I was catching up on the other threads. Then I saw Tami bumping the ones about my sister's cross and I got suspicious...

    Yowza!!! and Hurray!!!

Well that's a pretty spectacular birthday present! Even if it is Hoa's birthday and not mine!

Thank you Doc Spock, your High Lordship of Logic and Floof!

    McSmilingPrettyBig
    Gee, McSmilingPrettyBig,

You let out such a shout that people 10 blocks away all hear you! heheheeee ...
It is indeed a SpocKtacular birthday present even with my own standard... heheheeee ...

Since everyone already heard your shout, now I have to dish out all the excruciating tibits of the nekkid orchid sex involving your two favorite nekkid orchids!
Yes, nekkid orchid sex did happen as I logically promised. All happened in the middle of the night too!!! So it was done very discretely and no body else saw the nekkid sex besides who you know who ... Hehheee ... I took the Campobello pollen that I saved and stored in the fridge out and did the bird and the bee things on the Daybreak's female part and voila, it was just glued there. Phew!!! And why why nekkid orchid sex is so short? Only a minute or two and it's all over? Now we all just have to sit tight on our arses and cross our fingers!!! The suspense is killing me ... hehheheheeee ...

The Daybreak is a very vigorous grower and since it is putting out strong new growths right now, the plant might bloom twice a year!!! Unfortunately, the Campobello is clearly a fall-blooming catt, so it blooms only once a year. If the Daybreak blooms again in 6 months, I could save its pollen and use it on the Campobello when nekkid orchid sex time comes again. Not that I won't save the pollen from this flowering! Aha, a reverse cross!!!

There, you have it, McJulie, aka McYoungSkywalker!!!

DocSpock, Your High Lordship of Logic and Floof!

Whoever was following his High Lordship of Logic and Floof's seven-year cycles, nailed it: Doc Spock is amok time, but he's amok orchid time!

As for you, Diane Thumb, don't you know it's not all about length...it's how you use that time...

By the way, this was the direction of the cross my sister didn't make. She set the pod on Campobello. She told me she thought this might be the better cross. I tried calling her last night to give her the news, but couldn't reach her. She's still not back in her home, post Katrina.

I don't how I missed this thread. BUt the catts are gorgeous. Can't wait to see how the pollination goes. Thank you Hoa for sharing all of the gorgeous pictures. A lot of time was involved and I for one appreciate you! I will soon be the proud mama of 12 catts and will undoubtedly call on you and Diane for lots of advice.
