thanks Yew for the names , I'm always trying to find good parentage when looking for something new, I love both V Velthuis and Josephine van Brero, Emma van Deventer sounds familiar but the other two I have never heard of and will keep them in mind. I'm always looking for something that can take more sun, thanks again.

Ok. I'm getting another expert advice from Yew Sung and I have that half smile and stupid look on my face because I don't know any of the semi-teretes he has just mentioned.

Very nice vandas! Personally, I would leave the keiki in place. I love big vandas with multiple heads, but I don't think there's any right or wrong thing to do. It just depends on what you prefer.

I don't blame you for not being familiar with those semi-terete vandas. Very, very few people grow them any more and still fewer people produce hybrids with them, more's the pity. There was a time in the 60s and 70s when there were benches of of semi-teretes and quarter teretes, divided into several classes, in our local orchid shows. Nowadays one can hardly find 10 plants on show. I guess tastes and preference change and only old fogies like me still have a soft spot for them........sigggh.....BTW V Emma van Deventer is one of the parents of that most famous of Hawaiian vandas V Nellie Morley. IMHO, V Tan Chay Yan and V Nellie Morley are the 2 most outstanding semi/quarter teretes of the century.

What a wealth of knowledge you have about semi-teretes, Yew Sung. It is a pleasure reading your posts. I am learning about things which I have otherwise no way of knowing. I hope you still have these old varieties growing in your garden Yew.

Thanks Angel. Unfortunately, I disposed most of them when I sold off my previous collection after a serious illness. I'm collecting them again and have a few JVB and Velthuis crosses at the moment. These have mostly been produced by Thai breeders. Our local breeders don't seem to be particularly interested.
