    Default Jumbo cattleya orchid

I don't expect an ID, just thought I'd share 'Jumbo". I got this last winter at a yard sale for $1. The lady who owned it was getting to the point she couldn't care for her plants anymore. I went to buy some pots, but she wanted this one to go 'to a good home'- she said she'd had it 40+/- years. I was wondering of it was C. bowringiana at first. Bifoliate, tall gangly clubby psuedobulbs about 2 feet tall. This is the first sheath, there are several more to go and one looks like there's at least 6 buds in there. Flowers are between 4"-5". Might be a closeup or even F1 bowringiana I guess.

Hard to capture the color- I'd call it a coerula, it's a pale bluish lavender. Sweet 'orchid' fragrance.

I don't usually get or keep NOIDs, but Jumbo grew on me. It seems to like it here, it threw out 7 new growths this spring. Maybe I'll keep it. I don't have any other blue cats.

This pic is of a Johnny-come-lately growth showing the clubby form. I find it funny that the sheath on this growth is pushing out even faster than the leaves. Like the plant has something to prove.
I knew it wasn't bowringiana when it bloomed- still wondering if it could be a hybrid thereof. The closest I've seen the color in pics online is one of a walkeriana v. coerula x. bowringiana v. coerula- obviously not that, and no dark lip bar. Closest in form and color was a C. Miranda, and a C. warneri v. pseudo-concolor (wrong season).
Ah well, it has a name, it's Jumbo.

I don't know if I'm aloud to ask, but I'm going to anyway. It you ever divided it, I'd like to purchase a division. 😊

I don't know what it's name is, but it sure did find a good home! Is it fragrant?

While that stem does look like the C. bowringiana's I've seen, that bloom is quite different.

It has bowringiana growth habit, but flower count is down. I would suspect a primary hybrid with bowringiana as one parent.
