I agree. I find it a source of annoyance.

*snort!* If you think that's "huge," you're in for a shock. The spectabile I see at the annual March show regularly -- sitting on the ground -- is about 5-6ft tall.

I didn't realize that it had potential to be that big of a plant. So at least it will flower in the coming months and then we'll see how much and how fast it grows in Colorado.

My local orchid nursery has a trade in program. It may have to be traded in if it gets too big.

Give your Dendrobium discolor lots of sunlight and water and you'll get an orchid that gets to 10-12 ft tall. And then another 2 foot of flower spike on top of that.

It is under lights until the summer comes, then it gets kicked outside!

The room where the grow station is has 25 ft tall vaulted ceilings! Maybe it would work! LOL

    I like it too!
New to me is the expression "Antilope Dendrobium" This shows that I'm not a Dendrobium specialist.

Unfortunately in the orchid world a bluish purple is considered blue, because very few species produce flowers with a real blue color.

Antelope Dendrobiums are from the section Spathulatum, and generally have long, upright twisted petals. They can be quite spectactular, and the color range is all over the place.
