Default Finally, the queen Dendtrobium victoriae-reginae

Dendrobium victoriae-reginae is endemic to the highlands of the major islands of the Philippines. It was named by Augustus Loher in 1897 to honor Queen Victoria, who was about to celebrate her 50th anniversary on the throne.

I had this plant before but they all withered away. I hope to keep this batch for a long, long time.

The camera doesn’t quite capture the purplish-blue colors. I shall be posting follow-up photos under sunlight, to see if that does the trick.

This has got to be the most amazing Dendrobium!!! Well definitely my favourite in the family anyway... and I have not got one either, I've been waiting around for one with a colour as good as the one you have, as well as petals that are also as filled out as the one you have... definitely a winner in my books!

    Thanks for posting this ntgerald!

    cheers

    Nice pictures!
I hope that collectors from all over the world must know the real plight of Philippine orchid species that is slowly being lost due to illegal logging, over collecting, road opening etc.....

The speaker at our orchid society's meeting last night talked about orchids of Borneo and he painted a pretty bleak pictures for orchids in the wild in developing countries. And this was what he saw. While paph sanderianum plants fetch many thousands of US dollars for a single plant (the record I know is US$20,000 for a blooming size division!), a careless road opening/airstrip building exposed a cliff and bulldozed it over, resulting in thousands, yes "THOUSANDS" of Paph. sanderianum plants being uprooted and laid dying under the scorching sun! And no body seemed to care! What a tragedy!

Stories like that make me want to vomit! And rush over to save the poor, dessicated darlings! It's so easy to label someone a "tree hugger" but the reality is, the ignorant only measure value in one way ($$).
