Too bad for all those wasted buds, Zain. But your purpurata is so lovely.

    Very nice C. purpurata.
I hope you don't mind to ask you for more details.
Does your C. purpurata also bloomed without the low temperature?
For how many days the temperature dropped below 24ēC?
In the south of Brazil temperature below 5ēC. in winter (June and July) are not unusual. While in Summer on some days temperatures from over 35ē are registered.

Thanks for your question actually this is first time it blooms for me, the new pseudobulb already producing wonderful flower sheath ( will become my benchmark) I will let you know if he blooms again, with regards to the temperature almost about 2 weeks at night less than 24 Degree C. I didn't expect it blooms for me as some of my friends the clump already huge still no sign of any bud. I also have had another clone of C. perpurata but no sign of bud formation in the crown.

Specially the south Brazilian Cattleya species like C. purpurata, C. intermedia, C. tigrina, need a significant drop in temperature to promote flower production.
As I mentioned before the difference in temperature from Summer (January, February) to Winter (June, July) is significant.
The difference doesn't need to be 30ēC but the low temperature should go below 15ēC for 2 to 3 weeks to guaranty flower production.
