    Default Rhy gigantea var 'Carrot'

I started collecting different varieties of Rhy gigantea 4 years ago. Most of them were near blooming size. I was expecting a good blooming season this year as the 'winter' has been unusually dry and cool.Unfortunately the last few months have been quite hectic for my wife and I when her invalid 92 year old mother had to move in with us. My plants were badly neglected and I had no time to spray the fungicide and the insecticide. Many of the spikes on the Rhyncostylis were spoilt by thrips and mealy bugs. 3 Rhyncostylis have since bloomed but the spikes are rather short on these still immature plants.

This variety is the prettiest yet , better than the 'Orange' var. I posted last year.

Thanks ksriramkumar, Harvey and Kenneth. I had to wait for more than a year to get this particular variety. The vendor had to go to Bangkok to personally persuade the owner to part with one of these and she could only get ONE from him.

Beautiful! I love this species and this genus. Great scent, pretty flowers, and easy to grow.
