    Default Cattleya amethystoglossa

This orchid grew very large before it first bloomed. It's 26" tall now and this is the second year that it's bloomed. The flowers don't seem to last long and I would describe the fragrance as unpleasant, but the flower is pretty.

Congratulations on blooming it, Jeff. A species Cattleya can be much more demanding to grow and bloom than the hybrids but the results are worth it!

Quality C. Amethyst' Jeff. Great color & shape. Personal preference would be for more spots but wouldn't discard it by any means.

Nice! It is a very tall species. Hopefully it will give you a larger cluster of blooms next year.

I agree, Roy. I would like more spots also. This was a small plant when I bought it and I didn't know what it looked like. It took three years to get large enough to bloom.

Zain, the canes on C. amethystoglossa are generally huge, like clubs. No problem standing up.

Jeff, I think I read this was ameth' x amethyst' 'H&R. We are seeing a similar cross, H&R X H&R Supreme flower. Very similar flowers in all respects & with few & many spots. I have one but no sign of sheath, blast !!!
