I agree with Cattan good description of the scent, it is one of my favorites, and one of my first orchids, I grow in lower vanda light, cold temps in the 40's don't seem to bother it, and in time they become a massive 'clump' of intoxicating fragrance.

    What are your winter minimums?

well i see forecasts going as low as 34f, but really i think the lowest i get is about 39f. i don't think i have ever had a real frost here, plus my balcony is a bit sheltered. i am in usda garden zone 10b, and western handbook zone 23. these lows are usually only for a few hours overnight anyway. pretty darn mild, can't complain.

That's not very cold indeed. More or less the same average temperatures we have here, but we can get a few nights below zero, but not more than let's say two or three days in a row. Would this plant survive it?

i'm not sure. i would guess if it went below 40 you should bring it inside that night. i have a couple oncidiums i do bring inside on really cold nights, after learning they just couldn't handle less than 40f without a bit of damage. but many many more can take my cold real well. but my balcony is very sheltered from rain and wind, so that probably helps a bit too. i also don't water much if it will be cold, dry roots help them survive the cold night air. maybe if you have a sheltered spot you could buy a nice strong plant and give it a try?

Yes, why not? End of May we'll have an orchid show. If there's one available I might give it a try.
