    Default Ascocentrum garayi

    My Asctm garayi is in bloom now. This is another species from Thailand and usually sold under the name Asctm miniatum.With the reclassification of the Vandaceous family I'm not sure if this is still an Ascocentrum. Another of this delightful miniature vandaceous is also spiking namely Asctm ampullaceum. Will be posting pictures when it blooms.

    Yes, I know Mietek, but it is very hard for me to accept after more than 50 years of calling them Ascocentrum. and no more Ascocenda, Mokara, Kagawaara, Asconopsis, Doricentrum (both Doritis and Ascocentrum no longer exist) etc.

    That statement could be misleading. Without knowing what definition of Ascocentrum, and at what time, it is too broad. Ascocentrum is not considered valid, and several Ascocentrum species were transferred to Vanda by Gardiner (Phytotaxa 2012). There are also species once commonly known as Ascocentrum, and sometimes still seen under that name, that are not Vanda.

    Ascocentrum pumilum ===> Ascolabium pumilum
    Ascocentrum rubescens ===> Aerides rubescens
    Ascocentrum micranthum ===> Schoenorchis micrantha
    Ascocentrum hendersonianium ===> Dyakia hendersoniana
